Texas Gulf Coast Historic Lighthouse Renovation
On this privately-owned property there are four buildings that date back to the early 20th century, and we were originally hired to investigate cracks in the island’s lighthouse, which predates the Civil War.
During our investigation we found, determined the cause, and repaired major distress in the tower’s brickwork. We removed and replaced the old stairs, and modified the lantern room floor. Our work was then extended to the island’s remaining buildings, where we repaired and restored the supports for the elevated buildings. Most recently we are in the process of renovating the roof of the lighthouse’s lantern room.
Donna Border Crossing Station Shades
We were hired to design and produce drawings for a canopy shade structure at the US/Mexico border in Donna, Texas.
Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word – Chapel 100th Anniversary Renovation
The chapel is located in San Antonio, Texas, adjacent to the campus of the University of the Incarnate Word. The Sisters hired a liturgical consultant to refurbish the exterior, and redesign the interior for its 100th anniversary in 2008. The liturgical consultant was from out of state and did not have the staff to produce the plans and manage the day-to-day work.
We acted as project managers on the job, and managed the construction team under a very tight schedule.
Wind Damage/Structural Failure Investigation – Shade Structure in Houston, Texas
After 50 mph winds in Houston, the steel attachment to the support column for this tent structure snapped, fell to the ground, and was dragged by the wind, tearing the fabric. We were called in to determine the cause of the steel fatigue failure.
Due to our previous and extensive fabric shade structure experience, we were able to determine the design error which caused the collapse.
Refrigerated Warehouse Fire Investigation
A fire occurred at one of the loading doors at the truck dock of this refrigerated warehouse, which contains fruits and vegetables that are vital to the grocer’s operations.
We were called in to determine how much of the structure needed to be repaired or replaced, including the roofing in the area of the fire.
